Emily’s master bedroom started out as a far cry from the serene retreat she dreamed of. The room was cluttered, with clothes in piles, and bedding that didn't reflect her style. Makeup, jewelry, towels, purses and bags, you name it! - were creating a cluttered and stressful environment.

Master Bedroom - Before

She was wanting that light, bright, neutral vibe that just whispers "ahhhhh" when you walk in. You know exactly what I'm talking about—that feeling when you walk into a beautiful hotel room and immediately feel calm? That's exactly what she was after!! ✨

And here's the beauty of it all—beneath the clutter was the potential for the most DREAMY bedroom sanctuary ever!

Together, we turned her bedroom from overwhelming to inspiring using our four-step S.O.R.T. method for organizing and designing a space: 1-Strategize, 2-Organize, 3-Refine, and 4-TLC/Maintenance.

1-Strategize

First, my job was to help her to see what her space could become with some thoughtful reorganization and design to move from cluttered chaos to the bedroom she always wanted!

Goal Setting

I asked her, "If your bedroom could truly reflect what you need from this space, what would that look like?" She painted a beautiful picture of serene vibes, natural fabrics, and organization of her essentials that would make even Marie Kondo slow-clap.

We wrote it ALL down and created her North Star Statement to help us keep the project on track from start to finish.

"Create a peaceful, elegant sanctuary that would bring calm to my mornings and evenings."

Schedule It

We mapped out the plan on the calendar templae - things like, creating a mood board, shopping, organizing, decluttering, installing new elements, etc. We had a four-week timeline, breaking large tasks into manageable ones that wouldn't overwhelm her schedule or energy.

Room Walk-Through: The Reality Check!

We began with a thorough walk-through of the bedroom. She had lovely furniture pieces hidden among piles of clothes, beautiful jewelry and makeup stored everywhere that needed a home, and a window that could really use new curtains to frame the beautiful view outside.

We wrote it all down the full list of tasks on our master project checklist (what to keep, donate, repair, purchase, etc.).

Writing down every item that needs attention has a way of transforming overwhelming projects—seeing everything that needs to be done in a list suddenly makes the once overwhelming project seem completely doable!

Design Questionnaire: Your Style Detective 🔍✨

Emily filled out our design questionnaire, which is basically like those fun old-school magazine quizzes! Turns out she's all about those cloud-soft neutrals with just enough pastel to make things interesting, and some antique brass and mirrored accents to add some sparkle.

We also wrote down the specific zones she needed in the space:

  • well-lit makeup station

  • organized storage system for makeup

  • new jewelry storage for her collection

  • new bed with calm, relaxing, cozy bedding

Pinterest Rabbit Hole🐇🕒✨

We fell down Pinterest rabbit hole saving all the bedroom inspo of dreamy bedrooms, smart storage solutions, and elegant decor that she loooved!

Her style was modern lines with vintage touches (those brass accents were everywhere) and they all shared this relaxed-yet-put-together feel - in a “Modern Vintage Serenity” style.

After taking careful measurements, we created a floor plan with designated zones for each function—sleeping, dressing, makeup station, makeup storage, jewelry—making sure everything would fit harmoniously in the space.

Mood Board Magic

Using our Pinterest treasure trove, we created the most SATISFYING mood board —West Elm bedding so soft you could cry, a rug you want to sink your toes into, beautiful flowy linen curtains, and dreamy artwork over the bed. Seeing it all together? Love@first site!😍

Realistic Budgeting

We created a budget that made sense but also left room for those "BUT I NEED THIS" moments that always happen. Because self-care sometimes looks like that perfect throw pillow!

Finally, armed with our mood board and budget, we embarked on a shopping adventure.

Let's Go Shopping!

Finding deals is my love language—seeking out those perfect pieces that not only keep us within budget, but would also work beautifully in the space!🤍

Her absolute FAVORITE purchase? A 40”x30” pastel watercolor print from Cove that tied everything together so perfectly we almost cried. Almost.

2-Organize

Our next task was decluttering. We set up a staging area right in the hallway, categorizing items into bins labeled Keep, Donate, and Trash. We were direct in our approach, knowing that each item we removed was a step towards the tranquil, clutter-free space Emily envisioned.

Before our next session, they received and installed the double curtain rod from West Elm, light neutral linen-blend curtains (plus sheer curtains on the rod behind from Target) to enhance the peaceful ambiance.

On our next session, with the clutter cleared we could start to organize. We designated specific areas for her makeup station and jewelry collection.

The makeup station was designed with a chic vanity desk find from FB Marketplace, a hollywood style light-up mirror and ample 5-shelf storage shelf for makeup and this darling chair from Amazon.

We purchased makeup storage from Home Goods and Amazon, sorted her makeup and labeled everything.

Her jewelry collection found a new home in a large, elegant stand-up jewelry box with a full-length mirror, perfect for organizing and displaying her extensive collection.

3-Refine

This phase brought Emily's vision to life. At our last session, we set up the new West Elm bedding in soft, calming tones, a ridiculously soft, plush, 8x10 Safavieh rug, and light neutral linen-blend curtains to enhance the peaceful ambiance. We also selected artwork in light pastels that added a subtle touch of color and sophistication.

The After master bedroom reveal!

Although we initially planned to replace the old dresser, it matched the new decor perfectly, so we decided to keep it, proving that sometimes, the best decor decisions are the ones you don't plan for!

4-TLC/Maintenance

Once everything was in place, we discussed how to keep the room looking and feeling as wonderful as it did on reveal day. Emily committed to a weekly routine to tidy up, and a monthly deep clean to maintain the serene atmosphere. We labeled drawers and compartments, making it easy to keep everything in its rightful place.

Mission Accomplished: Master Bedroom Transformed!

Stepping back, it was hard to believe this was the same room that had once been a source of stress. Emily was thrilled with her new master bedroom—it was exactly the peaceful, elegant sanctuary she had hoped for. She now had specific, organized zones that not only met her needs but also expressed her style perfectly.
